Before digging into the topic, we need to understand why we need to address this problem. Academic stress has been there for centuries and this phenomena exists amongst the students. It is often talked about in a subtle way, though it is a big problem amongst the learning youth.
Well, it is there in every student’s life and can happen at any time of the academic year. The reasons can be numerous. Overload of tasks, assignments, and test preparation, presentations, unable to complete the tasks, all result in stress.
The reasons that can add up to this situation are as follows;
Many people have the habit of procrastinating their work and do the assignments at the eleventh hour. That really doesn’t work and one ends up not getting any work done at all. This in turn leads to academic stress. The accumulation of work becomes a burden and people don’t know how to finish the assignments and move on with life.
On having a lot of pending work to do, students go into a vicious cycle of thinking and the loop thought process of stress starts. One keeps thinking about all the pending assignments and the students keep worrying about them and about completing them. It is very stressful for the students to handle this situation on their own and not being able to talk to anyone about it. The reason for pending assignments could be many. Most common nowadays is over burden from universities as the academic trends have changed completely. The studies are challenging and there is only survival of the fittest.
Poor time management becomes a reason for overall failure in completing assignments and home works in academic life. If time is not recorded and managed properly, the assignments can compile and can cause stress to students. This leads to student depression and fatal conditions. Students have a lot to achieve in a very limited time and all that requires proper time management.
A lot of students comprise of young adults who somewhat need to be responsible for their academic progress independently. Challenges might include paying their semester fee, or working part time to help in home expenses or also take care of ill parents or to help out their single parents. All this adds up to stress that only the students can understand.
Whenever there is an examination or a marked assignment, the students feel overwhelmed, confused and worried. This pressure of scoring outstandingly and being unsure that the preparation is not up to the mark makes the student feel under confident. This is a feeling of continuous stress and overthinking. Adding the pressure from teachers and competition from class fellows also provokes the feeling of anxiety further resulting in overall mental strain.
These reasons result in academic stress and it is very hard for some students to cope up with these emotions and handle the situation. It is crucially important to learn how to cope up with stress. A strong person is the one who can handle stress and learn to stay composed in situations as such. The deal is to stay calm in situations of stress and hit on the right cord to overcome the situations of stress and accomplish ones’ goals even if they seem impossible.
Remember, nothing’s impossible!
